Toribio is a 50 year old married father of one, working as a part-time superintendent. He has always dreamed of becoming an American Citizen, but this dream was almost shattered when he failed the citizenship test due to his lack of English proficiency. Toribio’s persistence and perseverance caused him to enroll in WSCAH’s ESL class. When Toribio started class, he was unable to write or read English. He had limited conversational ability and his poor pronunciation made it difficult for others to understand him. After 5 months of intensive learning, Toribio made a remarkable improvement and was prepared to take the citizenship test for the second time. This past June, Toribio became an American Citizen. He carries on longer conversations and his pronunciation has improved. Toribio states that he feels complete and grateful for WSCAH helping him to achieve his American dream.
