We're pleased to share WSCAH's CEO & Executive Director Greg Silverman's interview on NY1, in response to the passage of the FY2026 budget reconciliation bill, and its impact on New Yorkers who rely on SNAP and Medicaid benefits.

The truth is that SNAP and Medicaid benefits were already meager. Now, with significant reductions to these programs, tens of millions of Americans, including right here in New York City, are at risk of falling deeper into hunger and poverty.

1.7 million New Yorkers rely on SNAP benefits every month. As these benefits are slashed, they will turn to food pantries like WSCAH to make ends meet.
Medicaid cuts could leave up to 17 million people uninsured, forcing families to choose between buying food, seeking medical care, or paying rent.

These aren’t abstract numbers. These are our neighbors - seniors, working families, veterans, and people with disabilities - who will be directly impacted.

At WSCAH, we’re already operating at record levels: in our most recent fiscal year (July 2024 – June 2025), families received healthy food from us more than 171,000 times, the greatest number in our 46-year history.
