FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
NEW YORK, NEW YORK — January 14, 2026
By Greg Silverman, CEO of West Side Campaign Against Hunger:
"Thank you to Governor Hochul for the ongoing commitment to supporting New Yorkers experiencing food insecurity. We appreciate the Governor’s continued investment in our community food pantries and regional food banks, strengthened support for the Hunger Prevention and Nutrition Assistance Program (HPNAP), and efforts to expand access to summer meals for children.
In 2025, food insufficiency in New York reached its highest level in years. More than one in ten residents – including children, families, seniors, and veterans – struggle to access enough food, and emergency food providers are indispensable frontline providers serving tens of millions of meals statewide.
Governor Hochul’s continued focus on supporting working families and strengthening essential services lays important groundwork for addressing hunger statewide. New York has shown national leadership in investing in programs that help bring nutritious food to our neighbors, from SNAP and Nourish NY to community food redistribution efforts, and we are grateful for those commitments.
At the same time, demand for food assistance remains elevated, and emergency food providers are witnessing unprecedented need in communities across the state.
We look forward to working with the Governor and State Legislature in the coming year to strengthen our collective response, ensuring that every New Yorker can put healthy food on the table with dignity and stability."
